The oldest Arab Islamic coin from North Africa (by Ibrahim Desi)
We had previously published about the Soldes currency, which was struck in the year 98 AH
It is a golden dinar in a Latin style, where the years are written and the phrase “There is no god of God alone” in Latin, while on one of its faces is written in Arabic “There is no god but God and on the other side Muhammad is the Messenger of God
And after two years, i.e. the year 100 AH (the reign of the Umayyad Caliph Omar bin Abdul Aziz), another pure Arab currency was issued, i.e. fully Arabized
Written on it :
In the center of the front face:
In the name of God
merciful
Most Merciful
In the margin of the front face:
This dinar hit Africa in a hundred years
In the center of the back face:
No God
Except God
Alone
In the margin of the back face:
Muhammad, the Messenger of God, sent him with guidance and the religion of truth
And from the information contained in this golden dinar, we conclude that the Arabization of currencies in Ifriqiya (Tunisia) was delayed by about 26 years since this currency was struck in the year 100 AH / 718 CE-719 CE, while the oldest Arab dinar was struck by Abd al-Malik bin Marwan in the year 74 AH / 693 CE. M
And this currency was sold in an auction in 2012 for about 30 thousand pounds due to its scarcity
